General Annotation

Sub Unit:

Homopentamer. Interacts with RIC3; which is required for proper folding and assembly (By similarity). Homo-oligomer of the short form gives rise to unfunctional channels, as does coexpression of both long and short forms of the receptor.

Function:

After binding acetylcholine, the AChR responds by an extensive change in conformation that affects all subunits and leads to opening of an ion-conducting channel across the plasma membrane. The channel is blocked by alpha-bungarotoxin.
